McCullough Robertson nets former HSF Queensland environmental practice head

McCullough Robertson has brought in Madeline Simpson, the former head of Herbert Smith Freehills’ (HSF) environmental team in Queensland, as its newest partner.

Simpson joins McCullough Robertson’s project approvals team in Brisbane after a 23-year stint with HSF. She had led HSF’s Queensland environmental team over 2016-2022.

“Madeline’s appointment is extremely exciting for our resources and renewables clients, especially those navigating complex approval processes and environmental obligations”, McCullough Robertson joint managing partner Damien Clarke said.

Simpson has advised on matters involving approvals pathways, impact assessments, biodiversity and carbon offsets, environmental compliance, enforcement and incident response, approval of carbon projects, and climate change risk. She has also provided guidance on ESG issues.

McCullough Robertson also highlighted her interest in mentoring junior staff.

"Not only does this appointment advance our commitment to women in leadership, but I know our people will benefit from Madeline’s focus on mentorship and empowerment", chair of partners Kristan Conlon said.
