General Counsel
Sharesies Ltd.
Natalie Bryant, general counsel at Sharesies Ltd., is described as a major contributor to the success of the business. Full of creativity, energy and commitment to change, she’s a talented lawyer working in a challenging area of law in an innovative manner.
Since Bryant came aboard in 2017, she’s shaped the company’s incredible growth. In 2020, she expanded her team by two — and is about to hire a third — and her clever use of secondees, alternative service providers and traditional law firms has made Bryant a stand-out in the field.
Bryant fosters a learning mindset and encourages strong relationships. Her strategic curation of advisers and champions for the business has been crucial — Sharesies now boasts a customer base of around 350,000 and $1B of funds under management — and she seeks input from key stakeholders to ensure the direction and culture of the legal team is aligned to business priorities.
Inspired by the innovative business she supports, Bryant isn’t afraid to try new things. Her team meets the business where it works — using Slack to stay involved in conversations, for example — and instead of re-inventing the legal wheel, hired legal innovators to assist in building out an automated legal intake and triage system for already-in-place business intranet Notion which led to much higher engagement with the legal tools.
Other impressive outputs include supporting volatile market events around GameStop with agile processes and timely support under pressure, creating an automatic confidentiality agreement and surrounding training and communications and developing positive relationships with regulators in Australia and New Zealand.
With Bryant at the helm her team achieved an incredible amount of high-quality work over the last 12 months and is blazing a trail with innovative ways of working and partnering with the business which would be the envy of many established legal teams.
