James & Wells believes that the awards are an important opportunity to celebrate the great work of young lawyers
The New Zealand Law Awards returns this year to celebrate the law firms, in-house teams, individuals and dealmakers who made a big splash over the past 12 months.
Following two years of virtual gatherings, the awards ceremony will finally be held live and in-person once more. The winners will be crowned in a prestigious gala set to take place at the Cordis Auckland on 10 November.
“I think it’s going to be a great night – the Law Awards is an event we all look forward to, and I have no doubt celebrations like this have been missed by the profession over the last few years,” Jason Wach, partner at awards sponsor James & Wells, told NZ Lawyer.
“I think it’s a particularly important opportunity for great work to be recognised, especially for the younger lawyers. We’re certainly excited about getting together again!”
The awards will look into achievements across 25 different categories that encapsulate the New Zealand legal profession, and James & Wells will be sponsoring the Young In-House Lawyer of the Year (35 or Under) award.
“It’s great to see when young in-house lawyers are supported by leadership and given the opportunity to try out new ideas and new ways of thinking,” Wach said of the firm’s choice to sponsor the award. “I think there’s a lot of opportunity to be gained when new concepts are given the space to be explored, and it’s my view that the younger lawyers that can (and should) be the drivers of this.”
He added that he was looking forward to seeing finalists “who are innovative, engaged with what they do, and who achieve great outcomes for their organisations.”
The floor for nominations for the New Zealand Law Awards opened on 23 May, with the window closing on 24 June. Excellence awardees will be announced on the NZ Lawyer website and online channels.
Those looking to submit a nomination may do so here. Further details on the nominations process and criteria can be found on the New Zealand Law Awards webpage.
The 2022 New Zealand Law Awards are also being sponsored by Lane Neave, Resolution Institute and Russell McVeagh.
