Only 18 around the world are recognised by the directory as climate change experts
Simon Watt has remained the only climate change expert in New Zealand recognised by the Chambers Global directory.
The Bell Gully partner is one among the only 18 around the world who are recognised by the global directory for their expertise in the area. Clients told Chambers that Watt consistently provides “clear, concise, right-sized, commercial advice.”
Bell Gully said that Watt has been ranked by Chambers Global as an expert in climate change since 2008, and he has been the lone lawyer recognised by the directory in New Zealand for the past six years.
Watt has been a key figure in the country’s climate change legislation discussions, the firm said. He advises clients in the public and private sectors, including on climate finance, forestry, and energy matters.
Bell Gully also explained its role in climate change action in New Zealand for the last two decades.
“We helped to develop core climate change legislation in New Zealand and have had longstanding involvement with New Zealand's emissions trading initiatives, including advising the New Zealand Government on the design of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme. Internationally, we worked on the world's first carbon trade for avoided deforestation and on pioneering emissions trading activity,” it said.
The 18-strong climate change group recognised by Chambers Global includes just three more lawyers in Australasia.
