The promotions recognise the dedication and passion of the firm’s people, its chief executive partner says
Nine lawyers from Chapman Tripp’s Auckland and Christchurch offices have been recognised for their work.
The leading firm has promoted seven new senior associates. Two have been named senior legal advisers and will become senior associates once completing Law Society requirements. The appointments, which are in the firm’s litigation, corporate, tax, and property groups, take effect on 1 June.

The newly promoted lawyers are Philip Ascroft, Luke Bowers, Tom Cleary, Robert Grignon, Sam Holden, Jacob Kerkin, Amelia Markram, and Kylie Mutch in Auckland, as well as Joseph Lill in Christchurch.
Philip Ascroft
Ascroft, who is a part of the firm’s corporate group, specialises in corporate and securities law, with a particular focus on ECM and M&A. He regularly advises on compliance and corporate governance matters.
Luke Bowers
Also a part of the corporate team is Bowers, who is an expert in corporate and securities law, with a focus on M&A. He regularly advises on private M&A, takeovers, joint ventures, reorganisations and capital raisings, and Overseas Investment Act matters.
Tom Cleary
Cleary, an experienced commercial litigator, is known for working on complex disputes. He is an expert in IP, media, trusts, contract, and consumer protection law.
Robert Grignon
Grignon, who is originally from the US, is a part of the firm’s tax team. He has a particular focus on M&A transactions, cross-border investment, property transactions and post-settlement iwi corporate structuring. He is named as a senior legal adviser.
Sam Holden
Holden, an expert in commercial litigation, has a particular focus on banking and finance, insolvency, and construction disputes. He also handles regulatory investigations and proceedings by the Commerce Commission, Financial Markets Authority, and Serious Fraud Office.
Jacob Kerkin
An experienced commercial litigator, Kerkin handles matters arising from a wide range of sectors, including property and construction, class actions, banking and finance, contract and tort.
Joseph Lill
Lill, who is with the firm’s litigation practice, is a specialist in health and safety and general civil litigation, as well as insurance law. He regularly acts in investigations and appears before the District Court and High Court.
Amelia Markram
Markram, a property expert, advises on front- and back-end matters. She has extensive experience in large-scale construction contracts and consultancy arrangements. Originally from South Africa, she is appointed as senior legal adviser.
Kylie Mutch
Mutch is also a property specialist. She works with developers and contractors on domestic and international construction projects in a wide range of sectors, including residential, commercial, mining, energy and infrastructure, Chapman Tripp said.
