He joins from Ogier's private equity team
Dentons New Zealand has welcomed Tom McLaughlin back as a partner in its Auckland office to enhance its financial markets team. He returns to the firm with over 12 years of experience in New Zealand and international markets.
Most recently, McLaughlin was part of Ogier's multi-disciplinary private equity team in the Cayman Islands. His career includes a notable stint at the New York law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP with a Master of Laws from Stanford University.

McLaughlin's expertise spans a broad range of investment funds and financial products and services, including fintech solutions. He has substantial experience in financial product and service launches, corporate and fund restructurings, regulatory compliance, and capital-raising transactions.
He advises on regulated takeovers, NZX Listing Rules compliance, and corporate transactions involving financial services businesses.
For this, McLaughlin has garnered significant recognition, having been ranked as an Associate to Watch in Chambers Asia-Pacific from 2019 to 2023 and acknowledged as a Next Generation Lawyer/Rising Star in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific during the same period. In 2021, he was a finalist for the Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year at the New Zealand Law Awards and was listed among NZ Lawyer’s Rising Stars.
