This takes the number of partners at the firm to 49
Duncan Cotterill has announced the elevation of Chris Thomas, Edwin Boshier, Juliet Short and Nick Laing to partner, expanding the firm's partnership to 49.
Richard Lang, partner and chairman of the board, at Duncan Cotterill, lauded the promotions, highlighting the appointment of Short in particular.
"The inclusion of Juliet brings the count of female partners to sixteen (32% of our partnership). As a group Chris, Edwin, Juliet and Nick have considerable and diverse experience including agribusiness, health and safety, insurance, insolvency and restructuring, litigation and dispute resolution, mergers and acquisitions, public law, and technology”, Lang said.
Thomas, based in Wellington, focuses on corporate and commercial law. He has worked with start-ups and growth companies within New Zealand's tech sector.
He has tackled matters involving the gaming, SaaS, fintech, agritech, FMCG, biotech, and medical technology sectors. His clients include both domestic and international venture capital firms making investments in New Zealand companies.
Auckland-based Boshier brings significant dispute resolution experience. He concentrates on regulatory defence and civil and commercial litigation.
He has guided liability and general insurers as well as businesses and individuals involved in regulatory investigations and prosecutions. He has handled a number of matters in health and safety and resource management; he has also headed up civil, commercial and judicial review litigation.
Short, also based in Auckland, has advised business owners. She has both private practice and in-house experience, working with clients in the primary sector/FMCG and financial services spaces. As partner, she is set to maintain her focus on matters involving business establishments, restructuring, M&A, and contract drafting and negotiation.
Laing, operating out of Nelson, concentrates on civil and commercial litigation. He has considerable medico-legal expertise and heads up a specialist practice in hospitality and alcohol-licensing.
The appointments are pending approval from the Law Society.
