Tanya Young and Kate Watt are the newest principals at Greenwood Roche.

Young was promoted to the role, while Watt is a new hire. Both operate from the firm’s Auckland office.

Young commenced with Greenwood Roche in 2017 as a junior lawyer. She specialises in construction law, having been part of the practice for seven years.

She has served as project counsel and as an external advisor, tackling risk assessment, procurement strategy, contract preparation, project delivery, project interface management, claims, disputes, completion and handover. She played roles in the City Rail Link, Puhoi to Warkworth Expressway PPP and Auckland International Airport’s Taxiway Mike and Remote Stands project.

Meanwhile, Watt has logged stints at Bell Gully and at Freshfields in London. She also served as Heartland Bank’s associate GC.

She went on to co-lead NewLaw firm Shift Advisory. In 2021, she became an independent consultant to established corporates and growth businesses, offering legal and commercial advice and project management services.

Watt’s experience covers the corporate, commercial, banking, finance and regulation sectors – in particular, she focuses on the finance and energy sectors. She has also worked on landowner negotiations, PPA negotiations and project financial close.

Greenwood Roche also promoted Tom Petersen in Wellington to associate. He started as a summer clerk before joining the firm in 2021, becoming part of the commercial property practice.

He has assisted private sector and government clients on complex rural land acquisitions and disposals and on leasing projects. He also helped develop the firm’s sustainability and broader outcomes initiatives.
