The firm worked together with Suncorp Group's legal team on the $4.9bn divestment
Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has confirmed its role in the landmark $4.9bn sale of Suncorp Bank to ANZ.
The firm guided Suncorp Group Limited throughout the transaction. In finalising the deal, the HSF team worked alongside Suncorp’s legal team, which was headed by general counsel Belinda Speirs, corporate advisory executive manager David McManus, bank advisory executive manager Tarnya North, and senior corporate lawyers Andrew Phillips and Laura Steele.
Co-lead partner Tony Damian said that the deal “demonstrates the resilience of the Australian M&A market.”
Damian helmed the HSF team alongside fellow corporate M&A partner Matt FitzGerald. They were assisted by Kristin Stammer (IP); Linda Evans (competition); Charlotte Henry (banking regulatory); Drew Pearson (employment); and Ian Reid (separation).
Other lawyers who pitched in were M&A senior associates Caitlin Walker, Lucinda Grant, and Amelia Morgan. The alternative legal services team also assisted by conducting due diligence and providing data room support.
