Someone claiming to be from the top legal body has contacted a law firm requesting emails
The New Zealand Law Society is warning law firms about a contact made by someone purporting to be from the organisation and requesting email addresses of lawyers and staff.
The top legal body said that it does not contact firms or legal workplaces by phone to make such requests.
“The Law Society has been advised of phone contact with a law firm by someone purporting to be from the Law Society. The caller unsuccessfully requested email addresses for a list of the firm's staff,” the Law Society said.
It said that its registry is currently processing renewals of practising certificates for the year commencing 1 July 2019.
“However, any detail checking is carried out through the firm administrator and would only possibly involve a single name,” it said.
