There are also 12 new senior associates at the firm after seven promotions and five hires from other firms
MinterEllisonRuddWatts has started the new year with two new partners and 12 new senior associates.
The partnership has added Briony Davies, promoted internally from special counsel, and Tom Maasland, a lateral hire from Russell McVeagh, where he headed the Information and Communication Technology practice.
Davies joined MinterEllisonRuddWatts in 2015 from Chapman Tripp, where she was a senior associate. The firm said she has contributed to strengthening its public law, economic regulation and cyber law practices by running several complex judicial review proceedings and advising on a wide range of challenging public law issues for both Government and private sector clients.
Davies – who has particular expertise in economic regulation and competition; government; litigation; privacy, confidentiality and data protection; and public law – is with the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice in Wellington.
Tom Maasland joined the partnership at the start of the month as a member of the Auckland Corporate team. An experienced technology and general commercial lawyer, he advises on business-critical technology contracts and emerging technologies such as blockchain and smart contracts, predominantly in the energy, retail, telecommunications and FinTech sectors.
Before his stint at Russell McVeagh, he was assistant general counsel at Spark New Zealand and legal counsel at O2 in the UK. He also worked at Olswang after a stint at McGrigors and Bell Gully.
The appointments of Davies and Maasland come after the appointment of Environment Partner Bianca Tree.
The firm also has 12 new senior associates after the promotion of Lauren Archer, Jo Carrick, Hugo Chisholm, Riaia Donald, Igor Drinkovic, John Morrison, and David Shewan and the lateral hiring of Alissa Cantrell, June Hardacre, Jane Standage, Hannah Andrews and Sonya Forbes.
