MinterEllisonRuddWatts has continued its relationship with TOMRA as the Norway-based company buys another Kiwi business.
TOMRA has acquired BBC Technologies, a Hamilton-based developer and manufacturer of fruit-sorting systems sold around the world, for $66.9m. BBC Technologies’ systems, including its popular punnet and clamshell filling systems for small fruits, will be integrated into TOMRA Food’s fruit inspection and grading technology portfolio.
TOMRA also acquired Auckland-based fruit-sorting company Compac in 2016. Minters also advised TOMRA in that transaction.
The top firm’s corporate deal team was led by partner Cameron Taylor, who was supported by special counsel Benjamin Jacobs.
“The acquisition highlights the success of many New Zealand companies internationally and their appeal as investment opportunities,” Taylor said.
BBC Technologies, which was founded in 2000, has about 150 employees across New Zealand, Chile, Europe, and the US. It has sold more than 2,500 of its machines to customers around the world.
