Minters partner named RMLA president

A MinterEllisonRuddWatts partner has been named president of the Resource Management Law Association (RMLA), the peak organisation for resource management professionals in New Zealand.

Rachel Devine brings 22 years’ experience in environmental law to the role. This experience includes acting for both private and public clients on a wide range of matters. She advises clients on major industrial and infrastructure projects, as well as guides government departments on implementing ministerial agendas, such as the reform of the Resource Management Act.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent our broad membership base and promote best practice in the implementation of environmental policy, planning and law, through education, debate and commentary,” Devine said. “In particular, as a National Committee, we’re looking at ways to enhance the profile of our specialists, provide more support for regional activities, and emphasise the quality publications that we produce.”

Devine has been in various leadership roles at the RMLA in the past 12 years, including being branch committee member, branch chair, and national committee member.

Established in 1992, the RMLA has more than 1,100 members who work as lawyers, barristers, judges, planners, environmental managers, environmental engineers, environment commissioners, consultants, and civil servants across the country.
