Mishcon seniors defect to Greenberg Traurig

Seven senior lawyers at Mishcon de Reya have made the move to Greenberg Traurig.

Mishcon division head Kathryn Garbett, white-collar crime and investigations group head Jo Rickards, fraud defence and business disputes team lead Claire Broadbelt, contentious regulatory specialist Matt Hancock and partners Annabel Thomas, Martin Shobbrook and Hannah Blom-Cooper will commence their tenures at Greenberg Traurig’s London office as shareholders – a role that is likened to partner.

In addition to their shareholder roles, Garbett and Broadbelt have been appointed as co-chairs of Greenberg Traurig’s civil fraud and business disputes practice in London. Rickards has been named chair of the white-collar defence and investigations practice.

Greenberg Traurig said that the addition of the lawyers beefs up its global disputes offering significantly.

“We are thrilled to be joined by such a super group of colleagues and exceptional lawyers. When combined with other recent strategic hires across the firm’s European offices, the timely arrival of Kathryn, Jo, Claire, Annabel, Martin, Hannah, and Matt, delivers on the firm’s strategy of continuing to grow our dynamic London office and our litigation capabilities across Europe,” London litigation practice chair Masoud Zabeti said. “We look forward to working with our new colleagues to exceed client expectations both in terms of managing risks and resolving the global challenges and disputes they face.”

Zabeti developed the firm’s disputes team alongside Mohammed Khamisa QC last year.

With the new additions, the percentage of female shareholders at Greenberg Traurig rises to 40%, according to Fiona Adams, London managing shareholder and corporate global co-chair, and Lori G. Cohen, vice chair and litigation global co-chair.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to serve our clients and to develop our practice on the Greenberg Traurig international platform. We have a depth of experience and a breadth of talent which will complement and add value to the firm’s existing business,” Garbett and Broadbelt said in a joint statement. “Greenberg Traurig has a culture we admire and a London litigation practice that is going from strength to strength. It is a privilege to join them on that journey.”

The departure of the seven lawyers from Mishcon comes just before the firm makes its LSE debut. While with Mishcon, Garbett managed the fraud defence and business disputes group, the white-collar crime and investigations team and the tax disputes and investigations group.
