The former High Court judge will oversee the reporting process following the general election

Sir Hugh Williams QC has been reappointed as the chairperson of the New Zealand Electoral Commission.
Associate Justice Minister Mark Mitchell said that the former High Court judge will serve a further term of 18 months to oversee the reporting process following the general election.
“Sir Hugh continues to provide the commission with very able legal and strategic leadership and I’m pleased he has agreed to continue to serve in this important office,” Mitchell said.
Williams was appointed a High Court judge in 1995. He was appointed president of the former Electoral Commission in 2009, the year he stepped down from the bench. He was appointed chair of the current commission in 2011.
Parliamentary elections and referenda, time and money allocation for election program broadcast, and conduct of the Māori Electoral Option are administered by the Electoral Commission, the Ministry of Justice said. It also supports the work of the Representation Commission.
