Keegan Jones was honoured for his mahi to bolster access to justice for whānau
WRMK Lawyers commercial lawyer Keegan Jones has been named the inaugural winner of the Young Alumni Community Impact Award at the University of Canterbury’s first-ever Young Alumni Awards, reported the NZ Herald. The win honours Jones’ mahi to bolster access to justice for whānau, evidenced by the establishment of the 25-year-old lawyer’s first free legal clinic in Whangārei in March in partnership with the Ngāti Hine Health Trust.
Jones, who founded the Free Legal Clinics Project, told the Herald that there has been demand for legal advice especially in cases related to whenua (land) and criminal law.

“We’re currently working in two rohe, one in Auckland and the other in Waikato, who had an interest and connected with me, wanting to start their own regional legal clinic,” he said in a statement published by the Herald.
