Tompkins Wake promotes construction lawyer Morgan Brady to partner

Tompkins Wake has promoted building and construction lawyer Morgan Brady to partner.

Brady began working at the firm in 2018 and practises from its Hamilton office. She joins partners Kate Cornegé, Wayne Hofer, Chen Jiang, and Jessica Phillips in leading Tompkins Wake’s national civil litigation team.

“Morgan’s promotion is not only a reflection of her legal expertise, but also the leadership qualities, energy, and high integrity she brings to the firm,” said Jon Calder, Tompkins Wake chief executive, in the firm’s news release. “In addition to being a trusted advisor to clients, Morgan is a respected voice within the firm, and represents the thoughtful, forward-thinking mindset that defines Tompkins Wake.”

"Morgan’s promotion to partner recognises her sharp legal judgement and her ability to deliver strategic, commercially grounded advice,” said Kate Cornegé, partner and head of civil litigation at the firm. “Her expertise in construction and commercial litigation strengthens our national offering, and her exceptional understanding of building systems and construction practices allows her to bring clarity to even the most complex disputes.”

Brady has acted for parties such as builders and homeowners in building litigation, individual defect claims, and property and commercial disputes, including those involving caveats, leases, and sale orders.

She has worked with local authorities facing compliance and regulatory challenges under the Building Act 2004 and related legislation. She has offered parties in the local government sector strategic guidance on risk management, natural hazard issues, and statutory obligations. She has helped individuals, SMEs, and large organisations with complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes.

Brady has appeared before the senior courts and alternative dispute resolution forums. She has worked on the New Zealand portion of an international business partnership dispute and the first anti-suit injunction case under the Trans-Tasman Proceedings Act 2010 in either New Zealand or Australia.

“Welcoming Morgan to the partnership is a natural next step in her journey with the firm and a recognition of the depth of value she brings to our clients and our team,” Calder said.
