The newly elevated lawyer first joined the firm as a law clerk in 2019
Norris Ward McKinnon (NWM) has bolstered its family disputes offering with the promotion of Jamie Blackburn to senior solicitor.
“Since his admission to the bar, Jamie has developed his technical skills in parenting and relationship property matters. He is a safe pair of hands; and has a great sense of humour,” family disputes team head Jo Naidoo said.
Blackburn has tackled matters involving parenting orders, child protection, relationship property, and contracting out agreements. He received his degree from the University of Waikato.
He initially enrolled in teacher’s college, but eventually switched to law, having been inspired by a Crown prosecutor who was a friend of the family.
“All through university I knew I wanted to be a litigator as I really admire people who are able to think quickly on their feet in high pressure situations,” Blackburn said.
After receiving top marks in family law during his final year in school, he received a opportunity to work with NWM as a law clerk. He began his tenure at the firm in January 2019.
Naidoo praised Blackburn as “a team player from the start,” highlighting his willingness to assist the team in packing up files during its relocation and with filing tasks.
Blackburn is also active as an organiser of regional and national family mooting competitions at his alma mater.
Earlier this year, NWM also promoted wills and estates lawyer Lemaluotiafau “Tia” Faiaoga to senior solicitor.
