Kate Sheppard Chambers has welcomed Pauline Courtney as its newest barrister, reported the New Zealand Law Society.

Courtney is an experienced civil and commercial litigator with more than 20 years of dispute resolution experience in New Zealand and the UK. Her areas of expertise include public law, judicial review, interim relief, revenue law, company law, insolvency, creditors’ remedies, and evolving digital space and privacy issues.

As a trained commercial mediator, she has mediated and co-mediated cases in the areas of breach of contract, debt recovery, estate and relationship property, regulatory disputes, and multi-party team conflicts resulting in the development of team charters and action plans. She has also undertaken consultancy work involving the design of an integrated conflict management system.

Additionally, she has provided significant advice on large volumes of digital information, algorithms, and automated decision-making and acted as a privacy officer in privacy impact assessments.

Throughout her practice, she has made numerous appearances as senior counsel before all levels of New Zealand courts. Before joining the independent bar, she was a senior Crown counsel at the Crown Law Office.

Apart from her legal work, she regularly presents seminars on litigation-related topics and delivers mediation skills training. She is currently on the New Zealand Law Society Litigation Skills Programme faculty.
