Chapman Tripp has confirmed that it advised Auckland Airport on its contract with Hawkins Limited for the expansion of the existing international terminal building to also accommodate a new domestic jet terminal under a single roof.
The firm shared that it assisted with all the project’s aspects. Specifically, it helped the airport enter into various early works arrangements, civil works packages, and other key packages, including the procurement of a new integrated baggage system.
The construction project, valued at around $800m, is expected to be completed in 2029, according to Chapman Tripp’s news release. The firm previously assisted the airport with critical contracts for its domestic jet terminal, valued at around $2.2bn in total, the news release added.
Hamish Bolland and Kylie Mutch, Auckland-based partners, led the Chapman Tripp deal team. Support came from partner Sam Holden and other team members, namely Meika McHardy, Max Williams, Andrew Smylie, and Gianna Fava.
“It is a privilege to partner with Auckland Airport on this nationally important project,” said Bolland in the firm’s news release. “The new domestic jet infrastructure is a significant step forward in the airport’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience for its customers.”

More on project
According to Chapman Tripp’s news release, this project “will be the major structure in the airport’s terminal integration programme which will provide resilience and capacity to support the future of travel through the airport – New Zealand’s gateway for international and domestic visitors.”
The contract documents considered factors such as operational continuity and interface between various other work packages at the airport, the firm’s news release said.
“Chapman Tripp’s pragmatic guidance was crucial in navigating and achieving a successful outcome for this complex contract,” said Louise Martin, Auckland Airport’s head of legal and company secretary, in the news release.
“The team’s expertise and support were invaluable in advancing Auckland Airport’s significant investment in the terminal integration programme,” Martin added in the news release.
