A team from Allens has advised global technology firm Freudenberg Household Products Pty Ltd on its $80m acquisition of Australia’s market leading professional cleaning firm Oates.

The sale of E.D. Oates Pty Ltd by GUD Holdings Limited completed on 2nd January and Freudenberg was advised by Allens on all aspects of the deal involving lawyers from its Corporate and Competition, Consumer and Regulatory teams as well as experts from Property, Banking & Finance, Employment & Safety, Tax and Intellectual Property.

It’s the second deal for which Allens has advised the German firm and lead partner Mark Malinas says it’s part of a trend.

“The acquisition is part of a broader increase in German investment in Australian businesses, a trend we believe is set to continue as Australia's free trade agreement with the EU progresses,” he says.

Norton Rose Fulbright loses Japan corporate head

Norton Rose Fulbright’s Japan head of corporate, M&A and securities has left the firm to join global rival Paul Hastings.

Eiji Kobayashi and his team, with their focus on advising Japanese corporations on outbound investments and M&A transactions, will add significant strength to Paul Hastings’ Asia Pacific capabilities.

“The firm’s strong cross-border track record and local expertise in Asia attracted me to Paul Hastings,” said Kobayashi. “I am keen to help the firm’s clients effectively navigate compliance and investigations challenges and to seize opportunities from cross-border mergers and acquisitions.”
