Ropes & Gray has announced its latest round of promotions with 24 lawyers joining the firm’s international partnership.
Among the new partners are several from Asia Pacific: Kathleen Berkeley (Hong Kong) in the special situations group; and Saeko Inaba and Ben Morris (Tokyo) who focus on private equity along with Oliver Nip in Hong Kong. Also, Daniel Andrews (Hong Kong/London) has been appointed counsel in the special situations group.
More than half of the new partners across the world started their legal careers at Ropes & Gray.

Dentons Rodyk to develop AI solution
Singapore’s Denton Rodyk has partnered with AI solution provider XION.AI to develop an artificial intelligence solution for the law firm’s backend processes.
The custom solution will enable the firm to use deep learning bots as part of its wider technology initiative designed to enhance productivity and further innovate its legal service offerings in the region.
Hong Kong to recruit IP judges for specialist court
Hong Kong is set recruit specialist intellectual property judges to handle an increasing number of cases.
Consultation with practitioners is underway according to a report in the Law Society Gazette, with the potential announcement of a specialist IP court early in 2019.
Mainland China already has specialist IP courts in several regions and is considering a national IP court as part of the Supreme People’s Court.
New managing partner for Hogan Lovells’ associate in Jakarta
Dewi Negara Fachri & Partners in Indonesia, the association firm of Hogan Lovells, has appointed Chalid Heyder as the managing partner of its Jakarta office.
Heyder has more than 19 years of experience in dispute resolution in Indonesia and has appeared as an advocate before BANI arbitration and as Indonesian counsel for a number of clients in the BANI Arbitration Center (Indonesia), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), and the International Court of Arbitration (ICC).
