Asia Pacific’s top law brands revealed
King & Wood Mallesons has been named the strongest law brand in Asia Pacific by market analysis firm Acritas. The firm scored 100 points in the annual brand index, narrowly beating last year’s top firm Baker & McKenzie with 99.
Herbert Smith Freehills (66 points), Kim & Chang (43) and
Ashurst (39) complete the top 5.
The survey of senior buyers of legal services across the world ranks firms according to 8 key measures: top of mind awareness, favorability, consideration for top-level litigation, consideration for top-level M&A, consideration for multi-jurisdictional litigation, consideration for multi-jurisdictional M&A, most used for high value work by Asia Pacific buyers, and most used for high value Asia Pacific work by overseas buyers.
KWM topped the list for its top level litigation and M&A credentials while Baker & McKenzie were strongest for multi-jurisdictional litigation and deals in the region as well as inbound usage from the rest of the world. Bakers is also most-used in the region for high value work.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Minter Ellison had one of the most improved rankings, climbing 11 places on strong favorability among clients, along with consideration for top-level litigation work and usage for high value work.
Asia-Pac partner appointed to global role at Linklaters
Linklaters has announced two new senior management appointments to lead its global corporate and division.
Hong Kong-based partner of 26 years standing Matthew Middleditch will take up the role of global chairman of the firm’s corporate practice while London’s Charlie Jacobs will be head of the division. Both roles will be effective 1
st September 2016.
Clyde & Co revenues up 13 per cent
International law firm Clyde & Co has posted increased revenues for its 18
th successive year according to pre-audit figures released this week. The firm’s revenue for the year ending 30 April 2016 was up 13.2 per cent to £447.3 million (AU$788.2 million at current rates).
Clyde has seen rapid growth to cover every global region and now has 45 offices with 3,300 people. The acquisition of Australian firm Lee & Lyons is noted as a key element of the firm’s expansion.
The firm recently advised on one of Sydney’s largest urban development projects, advising Fortune 500-listed property developer, Greenland Group, on its joint venture with Guangzhou-based Chinese developer Golden Horse for their proposed AU$1.6 billion seven-hectare residential development project in Erskineville's Ashmore precinct.
