Jacob Flax was previously SVP of Australia business ops at GLG Australia
Legal recruiter Axiom has named Jacob Flax as the managing director and country head of its Australia branch.
Flax was the senior vice president of Australia business operations at Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) Australia before making the jump to Axiom. In this role, he developed significant enterprise client partnerships, crafted segment strategies, managed budgeting, forecasting, talent acquisition, and drove double-digit annual growth. He also recorded stints at Bloomberg LP in London and Deloitte Australia.
"Jacob brings a wealth of client partnership and leadership experience in Australia, across each of the unique Australian markets, and a genuine belief in the importance of world-class client service", Axiom CCO David Pierce said. "He's absolutely the right person to lead our business on the continent, and I'm thrilled to welcome him to the global Axiom leadership team".
As managing director and country head of Axiom Australia, Flax will concentrate on supporting businesses, corporate GCs, and legal operations leaders in bolstering the effectiveness and efficiency of their in-house and legal ops teams. He joins the company at a time when GCs and in-house legal teams are looking at major operational and regulatory challenges.
According to regional GC surveys conducted by Wakefield Research, nearly 90% of regional GCs expressed concern that due to economic volatility this year, their legal departments will not be able to make investments in the needed talent and resources. Over 95% reported that their legal departments lack the in-house legal resources necessary to operate effectively, while more than 80% indicated that their legal departments found it challenging to employ the appropriate legal talent for their needs.
"General counsel and in-house legal teams are facing a unique set of challenges—from tightening budgets and fierce competition for legal talent to mounting regulatory complexity," Flax said. "The mandate is clear: they must achieve more with fewer resources, without sacrificing quality or results".
