The firm’s Tokyo and Sydney lawyers join forces to make the deal a success
Baker McKenzie has acted for Bunka Shutter on its acquisition of ArcPac Garage Doors in Australia.
The Tokyo-listed company bought the Queensland-headquartered garage-door maker for JP¥5.47bn, or more than $50m.
Lawyers from both the Tokyo and Sydney offices of the global firm worked on the deal. Its team in Japan was led by partner Yutaka Kimura, who said that the transaction shows the cross-border capabilities of the firm.
In Australia, the team was led by partner Ben McLaughlin, who said the highly complex transaction helps Bunka achieve growth plans in the Asia-Pacific regions.
Senior associate Lawrence Mendes supported Kimura and McLaughlin. Associates Chizu Matsumaru and Byron Frost in Tokyo, as well as associates Emily Hunter, Anna Kramer, and Daniella Lambert in Sydney, worked on the deal.
