Among the newly appointed lawyers are three special counsel
Carter Newell is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the promotion of seven lawyers.
Elevated to special counsel are Rochelle Rieck, Ryan Stehlik, and Allison Haworth (property and injury liability -– Brisbane).
Rieck, who is a member of the financial lines team and is based in Sydney, has extensive experience in professional indemnity and management liability claims. She advises international and national insurers on complex indemnity issues, fidelity claims, and dual insurance. She also conducts defence of litigated and unlitigated claims, as well as sexual harassment and discrimination allegations, made against professionals.

Also based in Sydney, Stehlik is a part of the firm’s property and injury liability group who is known for his expertise in insurance, risk management, and general commercial litigation. He has defended large property losses and recoveries, advised on policy indemnity for property and construction losses, and worked on public and product liability injury claims for a wide range of clients.
Haworth, who is also a member of the property and injury liability team and is based in Brisbane, is an expert in complex insurance and commercial litigation matters. She specialises in defending public, products and property liability insurance claims, and is routinely instructed in complex coverage disputes, multi-party large-loss, dust disease, and catastrophic injury claims, Carter Newell said.
The firm has also promoted Sarah Tuhtan, Michelle Christmas, and Jasmine Wood to senior associate.
Tuhtan, a member of the firm’s property and injury liability group in Brisbane, specialises in in personal injuries and property damage public liability claims, product liability, and worker’s compensation claims. She is also an experienced defendant insurance lawyer.
Based in Melbourne and a part of the financial lines team, Christmas works in professional negligence and disciplinary proceedings, property damage, and personal injury claims. She has a focus on employment related matters.
Wood, a member of the firm’s energy and resources team in Brisbane, advises in a range of resources transactions, including mining and petroleum projects acquisition and sales, land access negotiations, compensation agreements, legal due diligence, contractual risk. She also handles real property and planning work.
Carter Newell has also promoted Tamara Baldwin to associate in the property and injury liability team in Brisbane. She has a focus on personal injury and property damage claims, including multi-party disputes with complex liability and indemnity issues.
