The global network represents around 13,000 tax professionals across 114 countries
A Clayton Utz partner and one of the country’s foremost tax lawyers has been appointed to a senior role in a global tax body that represents around 13,000 tax professionals.
Dr Niv Tadmore has been elected as one of the three vice-presidents of the International Fiscal Association (IFA). He is the first Australian to be appointed to the senior position since the IFA’s founding in 1938. He has been the secretary of the IFA Australia branch since 2014.
The IFA has been playing a key role in the international tax reform of the OECD and the G20 in the past few years. Its members include judges, senior government and OECD officials, tax lawyers and accountants, in-house tax professionals, and academics.
“IFA is highly respected by regulators, policy-makers, the judiciary and multinationals around the world. This appointment accords with Australia's strong contribution to the development of international tax policy,” Tadmore said.
“The issues that we are dealing with here on a day-to-day basis are at the cutting edge of international taxation and have major implications, not only because of the legal issues involved but also because the amounts concerned can be very large – so large that they can at times be subject to a dispute between governments, rather than the ATO and a multinational,” he said.
Professor Richard Vann, IFA Australia branch chair, said that Tadmore has been instrumental in boosting the branch’s profile in Australia and beyond.
In 2019, the IFA Asia Pacific Regional Conference will be held in Melbourne. The event will be hosted in cooperation with the Corporate Tax Association, which represents major ASX and multinational taxpayers in the country.
