Clyde adds 15 Sedgwick partners to US practice
A team including 15 litigation and insurance partners has joined the global firm Clyde & Co in the US.
The team from the ailing Sedgwick LLP will join Clyde’s offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange County, Chicago, New York and Miami.
We have been growing in the United States for nearly 12 years and the addition of these 15 partners complements our existing west coast and national business. These partners are all focused on core areas of practice that complement our own and our objectives in North America, as well as our strategic ambition of being pre-eminent in our chosen sectors in any market in which we operate," commented senior partner Simon Konsta.
The new additions to the firm also include around 65 other lawyers and staff.
Law firms need a strong brand to succeed says survey
Establishing a strong brand will be best placed to benefit from revenue growth in their key markets.
That’s one of the main messages included in the 2018 Citi Hildebrandt Client Advisory report from the Law Firm Group at Citi Private Bank and Hildebrandt Consulting.
The report says that law firm revenue has seen modest growth but high levels of dispersion and volatility.
Revenue growth has been driven by increasing rates while profits have been aided by flat equity partner headcount, and maintaining tight controls on overhead expenses.
Industry revenue growth and profit per equity partner is expected to remain in the mid-single-digit range for 2018.
Further industry consolidation is also expected but those firms that have a strong brand can grow through expansion in current markets, new markets, or lateral hires or combinations.
The best legal talent coupled with efficient delivery of legal services will be key elements of successful law firms going forward.
Kennedys publishes Asia-Pac data privacy law guide
A summary of the latest data privacy laws across Asia Pacific have been brought together in a single guide from Kennedys.
The law firm’s publication focuses on data privacy laws across 11 jurisdictions in the region, utilizing the knowledge of its data privacy specialists in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland and associated offices in India, China and Pakistan.
“Many Kennedys clients have operations across the region. And they may also use data processors in places like India, the Philippines and mainland China,” said special counsel and data privacy expert Nicholas Blackmore.
"As a result, they may well need to transfer customers’ or employees’ personal data between those countries. It is important to know which countries have personal data privacy laws – and which countries are proposing such laws in the near future,” he added.
