Arthur Moses SC will be joined by lawyers from Anderson Boemi and Grace Lawyers, among others
Former Law Council of Australia and NSW Bar Association President Arthur Moses SC has confirmed his participation in this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout.
The event calls for business leaders across Australia to trade in their beds for cardboard boxes in a fundraising effort that also raises awareness for the nationwide housing and homelessness crisis. In addition to the a fundraising commitment, participants will sleep outdoors on the longest and coldest night of the year sleeping outdoors.
Nearly 10 representatives from Sydney’s legal sector are set to take part in the 20 June sleepout, which is the 19th iteration of the event. Moses will be joined by Warwick Anderson and Marissa Boemi of Anderson Boemi; Alexander Lang of Grace Lawyers; and Graham Lancaster AM of Lancaster Law & Mediation.
The latest census data indicates that over 122,000 people in Australia are, with NSW logging the highest numbers of homeless people. The Australian Institute for Health and Welfare also highlighted a considerable uptick in unassisted requests for help over the past three years in NSW.
The proceeds from the 2024 Vinnies CEO Sleepout will go towards backing the homelessness services provided by St Vincent de Paul Society.
“The annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout is the largest fundraiser held by the St Vincent de Paul Society each year and plays an integral role in ensuring our services have the capacity to meet the growing need that exists in the community”, said Yolanda Saiz, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW CEO. “No one should endure homelessness, everyone deserves a home. The impact the event is able to make extends well beyond the night as participants are challenged to use their connections and influence to make a difference in addressing homelessness”.
Events related to the 2024 Vinnies CEO Sleepout will be held across Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout has raised over $91 million nationally. In the past year, the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW supported more than 28,000 people through homelessness, housing, health, community and inclusion programs.
