Facebook given 3-month ultimatum to apply French privacy law

French authorities have warned Facebook to amend its new privacy policy.

(Bloomberg) -- Facebook Inc. has three months to comply with French laws and stop collecting data on people who don’t have an account with the social network or it may face sanctions, the country’s data protection regulator said on Monday.

The European Union’s 28 privacy watchdogs are coordinating probes into possible violations of EU law in Facebook’s revamped policy for handling personal photos and data. Dutch regulators were the first to step in after Facebook alerted its users in November of changes effective in January.

In Belgium, the Menlo Park, California-based company in November lost a fight with Belgium’s privacy watchdog after a court ordered it to stop storing personal data from Facebook non-users.
