Global firm prepares for Brexit with Dublin launch

DLA Piper is preparing to open its long-talked-about office in Dublin as Brexit draws closer.

The global firm has been considering entering the Irish legal market for some time and says that it believes the time is right to do so.

The new office will be headed by corporate partner David Carthy who joins from William Fry; and will focus initially on financial services, technology, and life sciences.

Senior hires for Corrs’ LTS group
Corrs Chambers Westgarth has added significant strength to its Legal Technology Solutions Group.

International e-discovery lawyer Maureen Duffy, formerly with Orbit, has joined the firm’s Melbourne office as head of LTS. And former Korda Mentha forensics manager Harvinder Singh will head of the LTS team in the Perth office.

Aussie startup school returns to Herbert Smith Freehills
Australian entrepreneurs are being given a new opportunity to get to grips with legal risks for their startup businesses from a global law firm.

Herbert Smith Freehills’ Startup School returns for its second round next month with six practical workshops at its Melbourne offices during June and July, focusing on the legal risks that impact investment opportunities.

The workshops are run in partnership with Greenwoods + Herbert Smith Freehills, Culture Amp, Cannings, NAB Labs and Square Peg Capital.

“In every session, participants will hear from founders and other experts about some of the pitfalls and challenges of running a startup. They’ll have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from the best in the business,” explained Herbert Smith Freehills partner Peter Dunne.
