The Australian Institute of Project Management is recognising the work of lawyers at Gilbert + Tobin for their handling of complex matter management.
The firm has formally integrated AIPM’s certification into its learning and development pathway of senior lawyers and now has almost 40 lawyers working towards accreditation.
“Senior lawyers are required to undertake a significant amount of project management as part of their day-to-day activities” says Peter Dombkins, Head of Legal Project Management at Gilbert + Tobin. “AIPM provides a recognised and independent benchmark for project management competencies, and provides our clients with confidence in our ability to manage complex matters.”
Gilbert + Tobin is the first law firm in Australia to provide AIPM-endorsed training in LPM for in-house legal teams, covering core competencies and practical tools applicable to both legal and non-legal projects.
BLP secures win using machine learning
A successful outcome of a High Court trial has been secured using predictive coding technology, machine learning technology that dramatically reduces the cost of the e-disclosure process.
Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) says it believes it’s the first time that the technology has been tested through to full trial. The tech was used to conduct a substantial document review exercise.
The law firm had faced substantial opposition to its use of predictive coding by the other side in the case, when the English Court gave permission for its use in the case in May 2016.
“We are delighted with the successful outcome of this case, both as a positive outcome for a valued client and as evidence of how predictive coding can be deployed effectively during litigation,” commented Oliver Glynn-Jones, Head of Commercial Dispute Resolution at BLP who led the team.
Ashurst hires Jones Day duo to boost Paris team
Two Jones Day lawyers have joined Ashurst in Paris to boost the firm’s disputes and corporate practices.
Anne Reffay worked at Ashurst for 15 years but has been with Jones Day since 2015. She rejoins Ashurst in the corporate team, specialising in leveraged buyouts and M&A, including joint ventures.
Hortense de Roux joins the disputes resolution team after 12 years with Jones Day. She has a broad practice focusing on contractual disputes, distribution, industrial risks and product liability.
