Lateral hire brings extensive experience in maritime insurance, shipping, and international trade
Hall & Wilcox has appointed seasoned transport and trade lawyer Chris Sacré as partner to lead the firm’s marine insurance practice and bolster its specialist insurance, transport, and logistics capability.
Sacré boasts extensive experience in maritime insurance, shipping, and international trade and advises leading Australian marine insurers in the cargo, hull, liability, and pleasurecraft space on property damage, personal injury claims, and recoveries. He also handles large commodity and international trade contracts and disputes litigated or arbitrated in Australia and Europe.
His offshore practice involves advising ship owners, operators, charterers, cargo owners, managers, agents, intermediaries, and their insurers on a range of issues arising within Australia and overseas. He also handles freezing injunctions, ship arrests, oil pollution claims, collisions, groundings, and casualties.
On shore, Sacré advises on road carriage claims, chain of responsibility issues, and claims directed at freight forwarders under multi-modal bills of lading. He also advises on contracts for the supply of petroleum products and operation of service stations for one of Australia's largest fuel suppliers.
Tony Macvean, managing partner at Hall & Wilcox, described Sacré as a “great fit” for the firm.
“Chris is an exceptional marine insurance and trade lawyer with a thorough understanding of all aspects of marine insurance and transport law and practice,” he said. “He provides advice on cross-border deals and helps clients resolve trade and shipping disputes quickly and efficiently. We are pleased to have Chris come on board.”
Sacré, meanwhile, said that he was looking forward to “continuing to service my clients to the highest levels, supported by the full-service Hall & Wilcox team.”
