G+T advised Healthscope on state concession structuring, design, build, finance, operation and maintenance contracts
Healthscope recently marked the opening of its 488-bed Northern Beaches Hospital in the Sydney suburb of Frenchs Forest. Gilbert + Tobin (G+T) advised Healthscope, Australia’s second-largest private hospital operator, on state concession structuring, design, build, finance, operation and maintenance contracts for the project.
“We’re delighted our experience in innovative project structuring has helped deliver a successful outcome for our client Healthscope,” said Alexander Danne, G+T’s banking and infrastructure partner. “This new hospital will bring the services, quality and efficiency of the private sector to important health services, and will give the Australian market further confidence in the possibilities offered by structured infrastructure. It will also give Healthscope a further strengthened platform of collocated assets and market-leading experience.”
On its opening day, 149 patients were treated by the hospital’s emergency department while 70 patients were transferred from Manly Hospital. More services will relocate from Manly and Mona Vale Hospitals in the near future.
Northern Beaches Hospital is a Level 5 hospital facility that took four years to build and features 14 operating theatres, six surgical suites, intensive and critical care units, a 50-bed emergency department, 1,400 parking spaces, and a helipad.
The project represents a significant investment by Healthscope on healthcare infrastructure, and is the first of its kind in terms of delivery model and payment structure.
