Clayton Utz advises Twiggy's Squadron on $75m equity raising... DWF hires Kennedys practice head for Asia Pacific expansion...
US-headquartered K&L Gates has been given approval by the Singapore Legal Services Regulatory Authority to combine with local firm Straits Law Practice LLC.
If partners of the two firms agree, the combination aims to be active from 1st January 2019.
“The combined talents and resources of our lawyers in Singapore will allow us to seamlessly serve both local and international clients in Singapore and in the region,” said N. Sreenivasan, SC, Managing Director of Straits Law, and David K.Y. Tang, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Asia.
K&L Gates has 11 offices across Asia Pacific and a total of 45 globally with more than 1,800 lawyers. Joining with Straits Law would allow it to offer clients legal services involving Singapore law.
A team from Clayton Utz in Perth is advising Squadron Resources, the resources-focused investment firm of Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest, in connection with a multi-million-dollar fundraising for Poseidon Nickel.
ASX-listed Poseidon’s placement and fully underwritten entitlement offer to raise approximately $75 million was announced to the market on Friday.
Clayton Utz corporate partner Mark Paganin and special counsel Stephen Neale are leading the firm's team, with key support from lawyer Benjamin Depiazzi.
International firm DWF has hired former Kennedys partner and Asia Pacific regional corporate insurance leader Jonathan Goacher to launch a corporate insurance practice in Singapore.
Prior to his time at Kennedys, the New York-qualified lawyer was a consultant to DLA Piper’s Bangkok office for more than a decade.
"Southeast Asia presents a really exciting landscape for the insurance industry, with tremendous opportunities. Insurance is a unique industry and DWF, with its focus on the sector and its global reach, is well positioned to help insurance clients achieve their goals in this region. I’m looking forward to working with this innovative firm and the excellent team in Singapore," Goacher said.
