The elevations beef up the firm’s employment, estate and litigation practices, among others

KCL Law has promoted five to senior roles.

Daniel Bean has been elevated to special counsel and Ainsley Atkins to senior associate. Meanwhile, Catherine Emmerton, Ian Liu, and Kylie Marotta became associates.

Bean practises with the employment and workplace relations team. He has extensive experience in employment disputes, litigation, and front-end drafting.

He has represented executives, board members, and CEOs, and is an expert in drafting employee contracts, managing unfair dismissal and discrimination issies, and negotiating contract disputes. He has appeared before the Fair Work Commission and the Federal Court.

Atkins is part of the estate team. She concentrates on wills and estate disputes, trust disputes, contested probate applications, and guardianship and administration.

She has worked with high-net-worth estates and families, professional trustees, and professional advisers.

Emmerton has provided guidance to owners corporations, managers, and lot owners on matters involving compliance, dispute resolution, common property defects, and debt recovery.

Liu is a commercial litigator who has particular expertise in equity and trusts, the law of restitution, property law, and contracts. He has advised clients from the inception of a dispute through to the conclusion of contested trials in the superior courts, drawing on his knowledge of civil procedure and rules of evidence.

Marotta has worked with small-to-medium businesses, investors, and private clients on retail and commercial leasing, the sale and purchase of land and businesses, mortgage lending, and general property transactions.

The promotions took effect on Monday. Earlier this year, KCL also appointed Marcus Best as a principal lawyer on the corporate advisory team.
