Matthew Layton will serve as
Clifford Chance’s global managing partner for a second term.
The new four-year term will commence on 1 May and comes after Layton was uncontested in the latest election conducted by the partnership.
Malcolm Sweeting, Clifford Chance senior partner, said that Layton has done an “excellent job” leading the firm even though their clients and the business of law itself face growing challenges.
Layton said that the re-election is a “huge privilege.” He said that the firm is already making good progress on an exciting vision and he plans to cement that momentum during his second term.
“In an environment where the pace of change is unprecedented and accelerating, our clients are facing complexity and uncertainty like never before,” Layton said. “For us, that creates opportunities as well as risks. Our success will depend on our ability to invest in talent and evolve our service model, working in true collaboration with our clients.”
Layton’s re-election comes after the firm selected Matthew Newick as its
new global head of litigation.
