The partners deepen ties first formally launched in 2015
Mayer Brown JSM and Jingtian & Gongcheng (J&G) have signed a global cooperation agreement.
The pact deepens the ties first formally launched in 2015. J&G has decided to establish a local law practice in Hong Kong, which will lead to the ending of its formal Hong Kong association with Mayer Brown JSM on 31 August.
The global agreement replaces the previous deal, but it does not involve a merger, Mayer Brown JSM said.
“Whilst both firms intend the relationship to be highly collaborative, this does not involve a merger or combination and the two firms will remain separate partnerships without any economic integration and with separate client engagements,” it said.
Independent firm J&G is headquartered in Beijing, with offices in Chengdu, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. It has more than 70 partners.
Mayer Brown JSM is the Asian arm of Chicago-headquartered Mayer Brown, which merged with legacy Johnson Stokes & Master in 2008. It has 300 lawyers and offices in Bangkok Beijing, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore.
