Morgan Lewis welcomes more than 750 from Bingham McCutchen
Morgan Lewis has grown substantially this week having welcomed more than 750 former Bingham McCutchen lawyers and staff to the firm. The new recruits comprise 226 partners and 556 other lawyers, legal professionals and staff and boost the numbers at Morgan Lewis to more than 2000 globally. Steve Browne, managing partner at Binghams noted that the two firms share many of the same clients but the move to Morgan Lewis will give the former Bingham’s team greater resources in new areas.
Competition lawyer joins HSF in Sydney
Liza Carver will join the Sydney team of
Herbert Smith Freehills following three years at
Ashurst. Carver is a respected competition specialist with expertise including regulatory, merger clearances and AAAC investigations. Her start date is yet to be confirmed.
China’s Han Kun forms alliance in Hong Kong
Chinese law firm Han Kun has formed an alliance with Hong Kong’s Choy Cheung & Co to open its first office outside mainland China. Dafei Chen from Han Kun’s Beijing office will relocate to Hong Kong to head up the new team.
Year-end bonuses rise for elite firms
Lawyers at some of New York’s elite firms will be receiving bonus cheques of up to AU$ 116,000 this year. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett; Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison; and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton; will reward associates based on seniority and length of service. The top bonus awards represent a more than 60 per cent increase on 2013 figures. Salaries at the three firms average AU$ 185,000 for a first year associate up to AU$ 350,000 for a senior associate.
