Kennedys strengthens China presence
Kennedys has made its presence in China stronger with a new co-operation agreement with AnJie. The two firms have synergy as they both focus on the insurance sector. Kennedys has seen revenues grow in the last financial year and this new agreement means it now has 31 offices and co-operations worldwide.
Greenberg Traurig expands Asia-Pac operations
There’s now expanded presence in Asia-Pacific for Greenberg Traurig with the opening of its new Tokyo office. The new location brings the firm’s offices in the region to three with existing offices in Shanghai and Seoul. The Tokyo office is headed by Koji Ishikawa, managing shareholder of the new office who joins from
DLA Piper, and co-chairs Yuji Ogiwara and Koichiro Ohashi who join from White & Case.
Hogan Lovells promotes 24 lawyers to partner
There are 24 new partners at Hogan Lovells following New Year promotions. The majority are in the US and Europe but there are also two new partners in Hong Kong; Nelson Tang, Corporate (Transactional); and Stuart Tait, Finance (BRI). The firm now has 800 partners worldwide.
Akin Gump starts the year with a round of promotions
Akin Gump has promoted 14 lawyers to partners with effect from 1st January. All of the promotions are in the firm’s US offices with the exception of Wael Jabsheh who is based in Abu Dhabi.
Singapore launches new international court
The new Singapore International Commercial Court is now open for business and will seek to establish itself as an alternative centre for dispute resolution especially in the Asia-Pacific region. SICC has an initial team of 11 international judges from jurisdictions including Australia, Japan, Britain and the US. There are high hopes in the country for its reformed legal system and there is even talk of Singapore law becoming international.
