A new national president has stepped up to the plate at the Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) in the form of personal injury law specialist Shaun Marcus.

Marcus, a partner at Melbourne firm Arnold Dallas Mcpherson, is set to take the reins from Slater and Gordon solicitor Genevieve Henderson.

“I am extremely proud to be the president of the ALA and I look forward to continuing the significant policy work of my predecessor”, Marcus said. “Our values and principles are relevant whether we are fighting for justice for someone injured on the road or in a workplace accident, a survivor of abuse, someone in immigration detention or a person living with disability”.

Marcus is an accredited specialist in his field of law. He has managed personal injury law files involving no-fault and common law TAC, WorkCover, asbestos and public liability matters.

He has provided instruction to counsel in litigation and tackled matters that have made it to the Supreme Court, County Court and Magistrates’ Court. As a member of the ALA, he has contributed significantly to driving the reform of Victoria’s personal injury laws on behalf of claimants in collaboration with the Law Institute of Victoria.

Marcus highlighted the Voice as an important area of focus for him as the ALA’s president.

“We are just months from the most important referendum that we are likely to face in our lifetimes, and I am fully committed to doing everything that the ALA can to ensure the enshrining of a First Nations Voice to Parliament into our Constitution”, he said. “As we come close to marking 30 years of the ALA, our commitment to protecting and promoting common law rights is still as important as ever and there continues to be work for us to do”.
