A former US attorney, the law firm’s newest partner will focus on white-collar criminal defence
Davis Polk & Wardwell has hired partner Patrick Sinclair from fellow American BigLaw outfit Ropes & Gray in Hong Kong.
The former assistant United States attorney joins the firm’s Hong Kong litigation practice, which was launched by partners Martin Rogers and James Wadham in 2013. He will focus on white-collar criminal defence matters as well as government and internal investigations.
Sinclair regularly leads internal investigations for multinationals in Asia. He also represents clients being investigated by US attorneys and various American regulators, including the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
He advises on a range of matters, including those related to the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, export controls and sanctions, anti-money laundering, whistle-blowers, and market manipulation.
Sinclair was a prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York from 2007 to 2014, and was appointed deputy chief of the General Crimes Section in 2013.
Davis Polk has 23 lawyers in the litigation practice in Hong Kong, according to its website.
