New York giant appoints private-equity partner in Beijing
White & Case has appointed Jianchong (Andre) Zhu as partner in Beijing to take advantage of a booming private-equity market in the Asia Pacific.

Alex Zhang, who heads the New York-headquartered firm’s offices in China, said that private equity is “growing rapidly” in the Asia Pacific region and the firm decided to expand its global mergers and acquisitions practice with Zhu, who specialises in private equity.

Zhu – who joins the firm after almost 10 years at New York-headquartered BigLaw outfit Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom – has extensive experience advising financial sponsors and strategic investors on cross-border public and private mergers and acquisitions, the firm said. Zhu has acted in US going-private transactions, private-equity transactions, and various corporate matters for clients that include investment banks.

Partner Chris Kelly, who leads the firm’s M&A practice in the Asia Pacific, said that Zhu’s familiarity with capital markets and funds directly answers a need for clients.
