Japan’s largest law firm, Nishimura & Asahi, has launched in Europe.

The firm has announced the opening of its main European office in Frankfurt. The firm said that it will also open another German branch office in Düsseldorf.

Nishimura & Asahi managing partner Masaki Hosaka said that the expansion to Europe shows its commitment to both Japanese clients and their activities and interest in Europe, as well as international clients looking at opportunities in Asia.

“With our firm’s expansion in Asia already well developed, the time has come for us to go to Europe. Our goals include providing seamless support, a closer and more convenient presence and a coordinating point for European clients as they do business in Asia,” he said.

The firm has tasked partner Noriya Ishikawa and foreign law partner Dr Dominik Kruse to jointly head the Frankfurt office.

Nishimura & Asahi said that it has worked closely with top-tier European firms in its long history of advising clients in matters connected to Europe. The presence in the region will allow the firm collaborate more closely and respond more quickly in providing service to clients, it said.

“We continue to value highly our relationships with such firms, and we see this as a further step to deepen our strong and friendly connections with them in the mutual service of our clients,” Hosaka said. “The focus of our operations in Germany on large, complex, cross-border matters, regulatory and compliance advice and on disputes aligns with our firm’s international growth strategy.”

Kruse said that the Frankfurt office will focus on supporting transactions, disputes, and regulatory matters of clients.

“The office will advise on German and Japanese laws on a wide range of transactions involving Asian, European and international businesses, assets and clients. Our operation in Frankfurt will also be supported by qualified N&A lawyers in our Tokyo, Bangkok, Jakarta and Vietnam offices, among others,” he said. “Our clients in European countries will enjoy top-quality services, the convenience of having prompt, direct communication with the attorneys at N&A Frankfurt, and 24-hour capabilities provided by a team of attorneys across N&A’s Asian network. Our presence in Europe, Asia and the US will ensure that we can service the needs of our clients across all major time-zones in real time.”
