NRF partners with legal tech firm for automation alliance
Norton Rose Fulbright and SYKE Legal Engineering have teamed up to provide a combination of legal advice and document automation.
The combined alliance of NRF SYKE will offer clients combined access to over 30 document automators. The partnership complements the law firm’s change and innovation platform NRF Transform.
“Law departments that effectively leverage contract automation are seeing significant benefits,” said Partner Martin McCann, Norton Rose Fulbright’s global head of business and global sponsor of NRF Transform. “What often begins as an efficiency or cost saving exercise can lead to improved risk control, business information visibility and internal user experience, and a base to build other legal tech initiatives and tools.”
He added that document automation is a rapidly developing market in which there is an acute skills shortage, but in which NRF and SYKE are leading providers.

A partner at Squire Patton Boggs in Hong Kong has been elected to the highest organ of state power in People’s Republic of China.
Nick Chan is now a publicly elected member of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China. He is one of 36 NPC deputies based in the Hong Kong Special Administrative region serving at the national level but is the only lawyer from an international law firm currently serving in that role.
At Squire Patton Boggs, the Medal of Honour recipient advises governments, private sector clients, funds, and non-governmental organizations on an array of different projects across Asia Pacific, the US and the UK.
Digital courtrooms adopted for civil litigation cases in SA
Courtrooms in South Africa will be paperless in a move towards the country’s Office of the Chief Justice’s vision for a single, transformed, and independent judicial system with integrity and protection for all.
Digital courtrooms will be initially used in all civil litigation cases across the country, thanks to software developed by leading global digital evidence management provider CaseLines.
“In many countries the use of paper bundles in the court room can lead to problems when evidence is ‘mislaid’, and justice is compromised. The introduction of a digital evidence system removes this possibility from the justice system, something we are humbled to be a part of,” said Paul Sachs, Chief Technology Officer and Founder of CaseLines.
