NZ lawyer on meth charges

A top Auckland lawyer has been arrested and charged with being an alleged methamphetamine dealer.

An Auckland barrister and solicitor has been charged with allegedly dealing methamphetamine, the New Zealand Herald has reported.

The man is in his 40s and – according to the Herald – works at a top Auckland law firm.

His occupation was listed as "legal executive" in court documents, when he appeared alongside five men and one woman at Auckland District Court yesterday. All defendants were given name suppression until the next hearing in three weeks’ time.

It is alleged the lawyer, along with two of the other defendants, supplied methamphetamine in June this year. He also faces possession charges – the latest of which was on July 7.

The other six people charged by police range between the ages of 27 and 67 and face a total of 189 counts, mostly of supplying methamphetamine and possession for supply, the Herald reported.
