Pinsent Masons, a multinational firm, has announced the appointments of James Stewart as a Sydney-based partner and Roger Hawkins as Perth-based special counsel in its corporate team in Australia.

Matthew Croagh, Pinsent Masons’ partner and head of Australia, welcomed Stewart and Hawkins, who have both joined the firm from DLA Piper.

“James and Roger are significant appointments to our corporate team in Australia as they add a wealth of experience and policy knowledge that will be of great interest to our clients,” Croagh said in the firm’s announcement.

Nicholas Hanna, Pinsent Masons’ head of corporate in Asia–Pacific, said that these two new additions illustrate the firm’s further investment in its corporate capabilities across the region.

“James and Roger join David Clinch in Singapore as important senior appointments to the corporate team in the region this year,” Hanna said in the firm’s announcement.

More on new additions

Stewart is a M&A and equity capital markets lawyer who focuses on public company takeovers, private M&A deals, and private equity. His experience spans complex cross-border transactions across Asia–Pacific. He has been appointed to the Australia’s Takeovers Panel.

“James is our ninth lateral partner hire in Australia since August 2023,” Croagh said in the firm’s announcement. “Those appointments have been strategic in broadening our experience in key legal areas so that we are a true full-service law firm.”

On the other hand, Hawkins handles cross-border and domestic public and private company M&A, private equity, equity capital markets, and corporate advisory matters. He is experienced in cross-border transactions in Asia–Pacific. His work focuses on the energy and natural resources sectors but also covers other industry sectors.

“James and Roger bring fantastic experience working on extremely complex deals across the region,” Hanna said in the firm’s announcement. “In an increasingly interconnected business landscape, adding cross-border experience is vital to servicing our globally focused client base.”

The firm’s recent lateral appointments include James Arnott and Veronica Scott – technology, media, and telecommunications partners – and a team of six lawyers last March, as well as work health and safety partner Carlie Holt and a team of two lawyers in Sydney in February.
