The firm seeks to capitalise on opportunities in Melbourne’s corporate and commercial transactions space
Piper Alderman announced on Friday it will merge with a boutique corporate and commercial firm, starting 1 November this year. The deal sees a full financial integration with Melbourne-based Norton Gledhill, as partners of both firms will share in the same pool of profits.
Both firms currently provide legal services to private and public sector clients across different industries. They also share a practice strategy of providing legal advice in select areas of specialization.
According to Piper Alderman national managing partner Tony Britten-Jones, the firm’s increased presence in Melbourne is significant because of the corporate and commercial transactions space. “Melbourne is an increasingly important market for our clients and one in which we are seeing significant and sustained growth.”
“The added expertise and experience of Norton Gledhill will ensure that we are positioned to capitalise on the opportunities in that market,” he added.
All of the current principals and employees of Norton Gledhill will join the merged practice, a joint statement by the firms said. The merged firm will have 60 partners and 141 lawyers in offices across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Norton Gledhill principal Alasdair McLean will join Piper Alderman as a joint head of the Melbourne office. “The merger provides us with a unique opportunity to maintain the benefits of the depth of our expertise and experience that we bring from our boutique corporate and commercial offering whilst, at the same time, providing our clients with a national reach and depth.”
“Additionally, our clients will now have the advantage of greater complementary specialist services offered by the merged firm,” McLean said.
