Superannuation fund Rest has recruited MetLife Australia GC and head of legal Duncan Whiteside as its inaugural GC.

Whiteside commences with Rest in December after he officially exits MetLife Australia in November. At Rest, he will head up the legal team and work closely with the company’s leadership, reporting to chief strategy and corporate affairs officer Tyrone O’Neill.

“I’m pleased to welcome Duncan to Rest in the newly created position of general counsel where he will play a key advisory role to the Board and senior management, while leading Rest’s team of legal experts”, O’Neill said.

O’Neill highlighted Whiteside’s financial services and corporate law expertise, pointing to his experience with the legal and regulatory environment in the life insurance sector. In addition to his seven-year tenure with MetLife Australia, Whiteside also logged a stint at TAL Australia as senior corporate counsel from 2013 to 2017.

As a private practitioner, he worked with Blake Dawson (now Ashurst) and Norton Rose Fulbright (UK).
