With a resurgence in client enquiries and case volumes in Queensland, Slater and Gordon has recruited from a rival for a new practice head in the state.
James Hunter, senior associate, has been tasked to lead the firm’s disability and superannuation insurance in Queensland. He moved from Shine Lawyers, where he was a solicitor and department manager of a team of legal professionals focused on financial services legislation matters.
“Many personal injury firms in Queensland transact traditional personal injury claims, yet many clients have further entitlement under their compulsory superannuation insurance. This is often overlooked,” Hunter said.
“Slaters has a great depth from its national footprint and a long history of acting for clients in the disability and superannuation insurance space. I look forward to complimenting that knowledge base and acting for our deserving clients,” he said.
Slater and Gordon said that Hunter has managed consumer claims for more than 500 clients through the Commonwealth Bank’s Open Advice Review Program. Karen Murphy, who has spearheaded the growth of the firm in the state as general manager for Queensland, said that recruiting a practice leader such as Hunter helps the firm execute its growth mission.
“Unlocking access to justice for our clients who are not aware of their insurance policy entitlements is a simple but effective way of enhancing the real value we provide for our clients,” she said.
The firm also recently added a medical law heavyweight in Queensland and tasked him to lead his own team. He also moved from Shine Lawyers.
